Quirky Kid’s The Best of Friends® was selected for the Hello! from Australia exhibition at the 2016 Taipei International Book Exhibition, extending the program’s international publishing exposure in Asia.
The exhibition showcased Australian children’s publishing as part of the Australia Pavilion at the Taipei International Book Exhibition, which ran from 16 to 21 February 2016.
The Australian Office in Taipei recorded Hello from Australia as a feature of the 2016 Australia Pavilion, presenting Australian picture books and illustration to Taiwanese and international publishing audiences.
Australian children’s publishing in Taipei
Hello! from Australia was developed to promote Australian children’s publishing internationally, support connections with overseas publishers and rights professionals, and highlight the breadth of Australian writing, illustration and design.
For Quirky Kid, selection of The Best of Friends® created another opportunity to present a psychology-informed educational program within an international publishing setting.
Building international recognition for The Best of Friends®
The Taipei selection followed the program’s inclusion in the Hello! from Australia exhibition at the 2015 Bologna Children’s Book Fair.
The 2015 Bologna selection had already introduced The Best of Friends® to an international professional audience. Taipei extended that exposure into another major Asian book market.
Later in 2016, Quirky Kid won the Australian Book Industry Innovation Award for The Best of Friends® and the program was also shortlisted by Speech Pathology Australia.
Part of a wider publishing journey
The Taipei exhibition became one milestone in Quirky Kid’s broader international publishing activity, alongside appearances and professional exchanges in Bologna, Frankfurt, London and Shanghai.
These opportunities helped Quirky Kid develop relationships beyond Australia while demonstrating how child psychology, educational design and publishing could be brought together in resources for schools, clinics and families.
