BaseCamp anxiety program by Quirky Kid

BaseCamp® is an innovative anxiety program for children aged 7 to 12 years. Developed by Clinical Psychologist, Dr Kathryn Berry, and the Quirky Kid team, draws on decades of experience, combining a sound theoretical cognitive-behavioral approach with effective, engaging and child-centred activities.

About Our Anxiety Program for Kids: BaseCamp®

Based in a fictional Australian National Park, Basecamp® takes children on a journey where they explore themed settings, team up with a support crew of experienced guides and interact with park animals, all intended to help them tackle the challenges of managing and overcoming anxiety.

The program provides parents, participants, and facilitators with a concise and engaging set of materials to help children and their families build a repertoire of anxiety management skills and to support the development of essential social and emotional learning (SEL) skills.

BaseCamp® comes with a range of resources to make it easy for facilitators to deliver the program. All participants receive the Basecamp® pack. The pack contains a workbook which includes  a range of psycho-educational resources to share the science behind behaviour with participants; direct instructional anxiety management techniques (including Cognitive Restructuring, Graded Exposure and Problem Solving); and activities designed to sustain and maintain treatment gains (eg. fieldwork tasks, performance feedback, rewards, home notes, etc.).

The BaseCamp® program, including all the activities and information, is sequenced, explicit, focused and both evidence-informed and aligned to various elements of the Australian Curriculum’s social and personal capabilities. The result is a practical and efficient anxiety management resource that is beautiful to look at, highly engaging and easy to use.

Holiday Workshops: We’re ready!

The holidays are nearly upon us and that’s great fun!

We offer group workshops designed to help children make and manage friendships, communicate better, overcome anxiety and perform at their best.

Our workshops have been creatively developed by Dr. Kimberley O’Brien and the Quirky Kid team over 16 years in the Child and Family field. We strive for innovation (winning local and international awards in Innovation) to make sure our programs are inspiring, practical and effective for small groups in the clinic setting or demonstrative for large audiences in an auditorium. Quirky Kid workshops draw on our micro-skills in working with children combined with current research and practices in Australia, the USA and UK.

The Best of Friends

The Best of Friends® program gives children the knowledge, skills and confidence to understand and manage emotions, set and achieve positive goals, show empathy for others, develop and maintain friendships and make good decisions.

Why Worry?

The Why Worry workshop helps anxious children aged 5 to 13 years to manage their own symptoms of stress and worry at home & school. Participants learn to identify personal triggers for anxiety and practice coping strategies to reduce any impact on the individual or family. By exploring solutions through play-based activities, participants learn to understand and appreciate anxiety in a fun, non-threatening setting.

  • Register for Why Worry? workshop this school holidays!

 Power Up!

This program is designed for children and young people aged 10 to 15 years who are (or want to be) involved in sports, music, performance or academics in a competitive way. Power Up! gives children the power to build self-confidence; cope with the pressures of competition; overcome self-doubt and negative self-talk; set goals and make plans to achieve them; maximise performance in any chosen field.

  • Find a Power Up! workshop near you this school holidays!

How to Register

Sessions for all of these workshops are available in our Sydney and Wollongong clinics. Places are limited so get in quick!

The Quirky Kid team is heading to Canada in February 2015.

We will be presenting during British Colombia Alternative Education Program (BCAEA) conference. The British Columbia Alternate Education Association is a Provincial Specialist Association (PSA) of the BC Teacher’s Federation.

Alternate (or Alternative) Education programs exist in many varieties. At its simplest, Alternate Education attempts to help at-risk youth, who, because of a variety of factors, are unsuccessful in the main stream. Problems experienced by these students may include a wide range of social and emotional difficulties, drug issues, trouble with the law, teenage parenthood, and a whole host of others. What these students share in common is an inability to progress satisfactorily in the regular system.

You can find our more and register here: http://www.bctf.ca/bcaea/conference.html

Other Workshops

Between 16 and 18 of February 2015 we will also facilitate several workshops with the support of Richmond Addiction Services, our partier organisation in Canada responsible to promoting and reselling our programs in Canada and USA. Dates and locations will soon be advertised. You can now register for:
