Bologna Children’s Book Fair

Quirky Kid is heading back to Bologna for the 2018 Children’s Book Fair! Continuing our success on the international stage from the Bologna Book fair in 2014 and 2015, Chinese Children Book Fair in 2015, the London Book Fair in 2016, and the Frankfurt Book Fair in 2013 and  2017, we are excited to join our colleagues from around the world to network, learn, share, and be inspired.

About the Bologna Children’s Book Fair

With over 50 years of innovative events, the Annual Bologna Book Fair is the world’s largest children’s book trade fair. With a focus on illustration and innovative content, we are proud to be part of the Hello! from Australia stand for 2018. This annual event brings together publishers and leading figures from Italian and International publishing to discuss innovative and current trends, discuss new ideas, and learn about new perspectives on publishing from over 100 countries.

Quirky Kid in Action

We love broadening and strengthening our skill sets and learning more about publishing from leading industry experts. Our attendance at this event is a great way to spread the positive Quirky Kid messages, and promote our evidence-based therapeutic tools, such as The Best of Friends®, BaseCamp® and PowerUp™  to a wide audience. We are currently partnering with the University of Wollongong to evaluate the efficacy of our innovative  The Best of Friends® program, centered around our Award Winning Book. We are excited to showcase this research and show how our therapeutic tools are supported by our published work.

We’ll also be showcasing our new production: Basecamp.

Our resources are currently sold globally including in Canada, the USA and Singapore. We are keen to expand their reach to more markets and improve more children’s lives through our engaging and innovative educational developmental programs.

Quirky Kid has many new resources under development and we are keen to create a big impact on the Social,  Emotional and Educational sector. You can find out more about The Quirky Kid Resources on our website or at our publishing page.

Bologna Children’s Book Fair

New QK Book selected for ‘Hello! from Australia’ exhibition and catalogue at Bologna Children’s Book Fair 2015.

Oz authors and illustrators in the 2015 Hello! from Australia exhibition Illustrations from 32 books have been selected out of 109 submissions from 24 Australian publishers for 2015 Hello! from Australia exhibition. We are extremely proud to have our book, The Best of Friends as one of the selected title! This is the second recognition we received for our publishing work this year.

The works, which celebrate and promote the vibrancy and variety of Australia’s children’s book illustrators and publishing, will be showcased at the 2015 Bologna Children’s Book Fair. The exhibition is the seventh annual display of Australian children books to be displayed at the fair, and is an initiative of the Australian Publishers Association created in partnership with Books Illustrated, funded by the Copyright Agency’s Cultural Fund.

The exhibition aims to:

  • support publishers in the promotion and sale of rights
  • facilitate contact between Australian publishers and international agents and promoters
  • promote Australian culture internationally, and
  • draw attention to the diversity and depth of Australian children’s books.

Previous Bologna exhibitions of Hello! from Australia have received an enthusiastic afterlife at other book festivals and fairs, including presentations at:

  • Paju Bookcity in South Korea;
  • the National Youth and Children’s Library, Seoul;
  • the Korea Foundation Cultural Gallery, Seoul;
  • the inaugural International Illustration Concours on Nami Island, Korea; and
  • the Capital Library Beijing, China, as part of Australian Writers Week.

A highlight of the 2015 fair will be the presence of the Australian Children’s Laureate Jackie French who will give the opening speech at the Australia Party and be part of the second international Children’s Laureate Summit in Bologna. The Catalogue will soon be available here.

Our title, The Best of Friends will be available Mid 2015.

Bologna Children and Adolescent Book Fair 2014
We are heading to the 2014 Bologna Children and Adolescent Book Fair (Italy) this week. We will be joining our colleagues from the Australian Publishers Association to network, learn, inspired and be inspired by all the amazing resources available word-wide for children and young people.

Since 1963 the Bologna Children’s Book Fair has been a leading international event for publishers. It really is the “place-to-be” for selling rights. The exhibition gives everyone the chance to discover the latest market trends in the book industry, to meet the most important illustrators, authors and see the winners of the most prestigious international awards

Events like these provide the perfect opportunity to showcase the amazing resources we produce here at The Quirky Kid Clinic. It is also a great place meet interesting and creative people doing similar work as we do. We will take the change and do some serious business by securing distribution and publishing rights. Our resources are already available in countries like USA, Canada, Singapore, Malaysia and Brazil and we want to expand more.

This will be our first time in at the Bologna Book Fair and we can’t wait to dive into it. We will keep our Twitter and Facebook pages up to date with regular information and photos.
