Quirky Kid announced its English-language edition of Rocio Bonilla’s Siblings! in December 2019, extending its publishing work into internationally licensed picture books.
The two-sided picture book explores sibling rivalry from two perspectives. One story begins from the older sister’s point of view and the other from her younger brother’s, with the two narratives meeting in the middle.
Quirky Kid’s original release announcement was published on 20 December 2019. The current Quirky Kid product record continues to list the title as part of its children’s publishing catalogue.
International rights brought to Quirky Kid
The original title, Germans, was created by Catalan author and illustrator Rocio Bonilla and first published by Bromera in 2018.
The Institut Ramon Llull international rights record lists Quirky Kid among the publishers that acquired rights to the book, specifically recording Quirky Kid for the English-language edition.
That independent rights record places the Quirky Kid edition within a wider international publishing story, with the title licensed into numerous languages and markets.
A picture book built around perspective
Siblings! uses its physical format as part of the storytelling. Readers can start from either end of the book, seeing the relationship through one sibling’s complaints and frustrations before the story gradually reveals affection, shared experiences and appreciation.
The approach made the title a natural fit for Quirky Kid’s publishing interests in social relationships, emotional understanding and practical conversation starters for children and adults.
An independent Reading Time review later identified Rocio Bonilla as author and Quirky Kid as publisher of the English-language edition, noting the book’s usefulness for discussing sibling relationships and perspective-taking.
Part of Quirky Kid’s move into international trade publishing
The publication followed a period in which Quirky Kid was deliberately broadening its publishing model. A 2018 Books+Publishing profile recorded the company acquiring rights to overseas titles while continuing to develop its own psychologist-informed resources.
Books+Publishing described this as a new stage for Quirky Kid Publishing, combining original educational resources with selected international titles.
Siblings! is a useful milestone in that transition, showing Quirky Kid applying its child-development lens not only to resources created internally, but also to international picture books selected for Australian and English-language readers.
