Quirky Kid joined the Australian Publishers Association collective stand at the 2010 Frankfurt Book Fair, taking its child psychology resources to one of the world’s major international publishing marketplaces.

The 62nd Frankfurter Buchmesse ran from 6 to 10 October 2010. According to the fair’s official historical record, the event brought together 7,539 exhibitors from 111 countries, creating a major international forum for publishing, rights and licensing.

For Quirky Kid, the fair provided an opportunity to present Australian-developed psychology resources to publishers, distributors and other industry professionals beyond the domestic market.

Taking Quirky Kid publishing internationally

By 2010, Quirky Kid was developing a publishing arm alongside its child psychology services. Resources created through clinical practice were being adapted into practical tools that could be used by children, parents, schools and professionals.

Participation in Frankfurt formed part of an early internationalisation strategy for that work, alongside emerging distribution in markets including Canada, the United States and Singapore.

Learning from the global publishing industry

The official history of the Frankfurt Book Fair describes the 2010 event as a period when technology, content and international rights trading were becoming increasingly interconnected.

For a small Australian psychology publisher, being present in that environment created opportunities to understand international distribution, licensing and publishing trends while building relationships outside Australia.

An early step in a longer publishing story

The 2010 Frankfurt appearance predates many of Quirky Kid’s later publishing milestones, including international recognition for The Best of Friends® and Basecamp®.

It remains an important early marker of Quirky Kid’s ambition to take Australian-developed child psychology resources beyond the consulting room and into wider national and international use.
