Psychology student Peta Larkin joined Quirky Kid to gain first-hand experience of how child psychology, research, publishing and program delivery come together inside a specialist service.
Her placement coincided with a period of active program development and research, giving her exposure to both clinical-business operations and the work behind Quirky Kid’s educational resources.
Working across programs and research
Peta participated in BaseCamp® staff training, contributed to website content and social media, and supported work connected with The Best of Friends® research study being developed with the University of Wollongong.
That mix of activities gave her insight into how a psychology organisation can move from clinical ideas to structured programs, research projects and communication with families and professionals.
Building confidence before postgraduate study
Peta reflected that the placement helped build confidence and gave her a clearer picture of professional psychology practice before future postgraduate study.
Working alongside psychologists also provided an opportunity to learn about career pathways, professional expectations and the day-to-day realities of a small clinical team.
