Quirky Kid partnered with Hodder Education UK to create a five-title collection supporting wellbeing and social-emotional learning for the International Baccalaureate® Primary Years Programme.
The collaboration brought Quirky Kid’s child psychology and educational publishing experience into an international school publishing program developed for educators and students using the IB Primary Years Programme.
The collection includes Wellbeing for the IB PYP: Teaching for Success by Dr Kimberley O’Brien, together with four PYP Approaches to Learning skills workbooks covering interpersonal relationships, growth mindset, mindfulness, and social and emotional intelligence and emotional management.
Hodder Education published the collection for the international education market. Quirky Kid’s current PYP collection records the five books and workbooks and their publication through Hodder Education UK.
Taking Quirky Kid psychology into international classrooms
The project created a new pathway for Quirky Kid’s psychology-informed educational work to reach schools beyond Australia. Rather than adapting a clinical resource directly, the titles were developed for the needs of the IB Primary Years Programme and its emphasis on student agency, communication, self-management and social skills.
Wellbeing for the IB PYP: Teaching for Success focuses on practical strategies educators can use to support physical and emotional wellbeing, including mindfulness, anxiety and stress, classroom environments and social-emotional learning.
A significant international publishing collaboration
Working with an established international education publisher marked an important step in Quirky Kid’s publishing development. It demonstrated how expertise developed through child psychology, school consultation and resource design could be translated into materials for a global education audience.
The international digital listing for Wellbeing for the IB PYP records Dr Kimberley O’Brien as the author and Hodder Education as the publisher and seller of the title.
The collaboration also built on Quirky Kid’s longer history of developing illustrated, practical resources that connect psychological concepts with the everyday environments in which children learn and develop.
Building a broader publishing footprint
The Hodder Education collaboration remains one of Quirky Kid’s strongest international publishing milestones. It placed Australian-developed child psychology and wellbeing content within a recognised international education publishing framework and extended the organisation’s work into IB school communities.
For Quirky Kid, the project reflects a broader aim that continues across its programs and resources: turning psychological knowledge into practical, engaging tools that can be used by children, families, educators and professionals.
