On August 1, 2024, Pymble Ladies' College hosted the Research-Invested Schools National Conference. This influential event, organised by Hugh Chilton from Scots College and Sarah Loch from Pymble Ladies' College, gathered educational leaders and researchers across Australia. Dr. Kimberley O'Brien, our principal child psychologist was among the attendees, engaging in discussions to explore new ideas, collaborative projects, and professional growth opportunities.

Kimberley enjoyed meeting other researchers from various universities and schools around Australia. She found it interesting to learn how research projects are selected based on the school’s strategic plan. The most reassuring takeaway was the fact that research guides boardroom discussions.

Kimberley shares, “after doing my own research, I discovered only 1.8% of board members are non-Anglo women, with the vast majority (70%) being Anglo men. I’m determined to change these figures, and I’ve since been pitching research proposals to girls' schools with plans to explore female boardroom behaviour (with and without male students) seated around the same table”.

Exploring Cutting-Edge Trends in Education

The conference highlighted some key trends transforming education:

  1. Collaborative Learning Environments: The rise of collaborative learning environments was discussed. These settings promote teamwork and critical thinking, helping students develop skills essential for real-world success.

  2. Continuous Professional Development: The conference highlighted the need for ongoing professional development for educators. Staying updated with the latest research and teaching strategies is crucial for providing the best learning experiences.

  3. Global Research Connections: The importance of international collaboration was emphasised, showcasing how sharing practices and research findings can improve educational practices worldwide.

Building Connections and Shaping the Future

The Research-Invested Schools National Conference was a key event for knowledge sharing and fostering new connections. Dr. Kimberley and other attendees left with fresh perspectives and opportunities to advance educational practices. These insights and connections will benefit schools and students globally, paving the way for continued innovation in education.

The conference’s success reflects the vibrant and forward-thinking nature of the educational community, signalling a bright and promising academic future.
