Quirky Kid released a second edition of its Face It Cards, refreshing one of the organisation’s early visual communication resources while retaining the hand-drawn format that made the original distinctive.

Face It was developed to support discussion about emotions, facial expressions, behaviour and social situations. The second edition updated the presentation and packaging while continuing to use 35 illustrated expression cards as the core of the resource.

The current Face It Cards product page identifies the current set as the second edition and records its continued use with children and adults across home, school, clinic and community settings.

Using illustration to support communication

The cards were designed as a practical visual tool for moments when spoken language alone may not be enough. Children can point to expressions, compare different emotional cues and use the images as a starting point for conversations about feelings, empathy and behaviour.

That visual approach made Face It a natural extension of Quirky Kid’s clinical work, where concrete and engaging materials can help children participate more actively in discussion.

From original resource to a refreshed edition

Producing a second edition showed that Face It had become an established part of Quirky Kid’s therapeutic publishing catalogue rather than a one-off clinical tool.

The updated edition retained the original concept while improving the physical product and extending its useful life for parents, educators and professionals.

Face It also appeared within Quirky Kid’s wider professional distribution relationship with the Australian Council for Educational Research, alongside other therapeutic card sets and child-development resources.

A durable part of Quirky Kid’s publishing history

Face It sits within the same early publishing period as Just Like When, Tell Me a Story and The Likes of Youth. Together, these resources helped establish Quirky Kid’s approach to combining child psychology, illustration and practical design.

The second edition is a useful company milestone because it reflects something different from a launch: the decision to revisit, refine and continue investing in a resource after its initial release.

That process of iteration later became visible across Quirky Kid’s larger programs and publishing projects as the organisation expanded beyond individual therapeutic card sets.
