On Friday evening we were thrilled to take home the Best Designed Educational Primary/Secondary Book award at the Australian Book Designer Awards for BaseCamp®.
The awards celebrate Australia’s bravest and brightest works in over 16 categories. With 355 entries, we were honoured to be recognised alongside other beautiful books published throughout Australia last year. We had a wonderful evening getting to learn, share ideas, and mingle with some of Australia’s top publishers and designers.
The Judges commented that Basecamp® was:
“a really wonderful example of what a book in this category can be” - “fun, engaging and sophisticated while still being accessible”.
The Judges also loved the amazing design concept commenting that the:
“strong, considered use of colour and typography the textured vector illustrations and the interactive elements” gave it an edge, “making it a book that I think children will want to return to again and again”.

The panel of 7 Judges consisted of prestigious designers and publishers, who carefully judged submissions through two rounds. After viewing submission digitally and creating a long list, Judges viewed entries ‘in the flesh’ to create a short list of finalists. The other amazing titles shortlisted in our category were:

We loved meeting the Designers and Publishers of these books and were impressed by how beautiful and informative the books of our fellow shortlisted titles were. We were honoured to be shortlisted for these amazing titles and delighted to take out the award when the standard of entries was so high.
