Belinda Nixon

Belinda Nixon is employed as a Senior Psychologist at the Quirky Kid Clinic in Sydney and Austinmer.

Belinda began her career (2008) working with one of Australia’s largest corporate psychology companies responding to traumatic incidents. Concurrently, Belinda held a role with Lifeline Australia where she had the opportunity to further develop her counselling skills with a range of clients including at-risk callers.

In 2009, Belinda joined the University of Sydney Royal Rehabilitation Centre as a Health Education officer researching anxiety and depression in recently injured spinal cord patients.  Her role involved the administration of psychosocial assessment tools, conducting risk assessments, statistical analysis and development of treatment programs for a range clients and their families.

Simultaniously, Belinda was completing her Internship as a psychologist where she consolidated her skills on diagnosing and treating children, adults and families with a variety of mental health issues including anxiety, depression, autism spectrum disorders, stress, anger, self-esteem and behavioural issues using a cognitive behavioural therapy framework.

In 2012, Belinda began a new role as an Applied Behavioural Analysis (ABA) therapist working with children on the Autism Spectrum referred by the Lizard Centre. Her role included delivering intensive therapy to children of various abilities, liaising with teachers and schools, evaluation of intervention plans and outcomes and delivering a range of programs, developing social, emotional, play, language, motor, and community skills.

Since 2014 and prior to joining the Quirky Kid team, Belinda worked at a large psychology practice on the Central Coast of NSW. During her role, Belinda further developed her abilities to assess and treat children, adolescents and families with a variety of complex presentations.

Belinda works within a Cognitive Behavioural Therapy treatment and Interpersonal Therapy treatment framework to support her clients. She is also experienced in providing thorough diagnostic psychometric assessments for children and adolescents with behavioural or learning difficulties.

Belinda Nixon has completed a Bachelor of Arts (Psychology) and a Post Graduate Diploma in Psychology at Macquarie University. She is a Registered Psychologist with AHPRA and works alongside her colleagues at Quirky Kid under the supervision of Dr Kimberley O’Brien.
