The NSW Psychologist’s Registration Board held a 2 day workshop in Sydney (3rd & 4th Sept 2009) to train registered psychologists with more than 3 years experience to supervise Intern Psychologists. It was a great chance to meet colleagues and bump into familiar faces from diverse organisations and private practices around NSW.

We listened intently and ploughed our way through legal and ethical aspects of supervising, as well as the practical new rules of ensure Inerns have face-to-face client contact in the course of their 2 year placement. I came away feeling proud of the opportunities we offer Interns at Quirky Kid and with new inspiration for the continued growth of QK.

The Quirky Kid Clinic is commited to offering and participating in the highest standard of professional development (PD) to ensure we are doubling the required PD points for psychologists through the Australian Psychological Society (APS).

We are a Child Psychology Clinic based in Sydney, Australia specializing in assessments, individual counselling and groups such as The Best of Friends, Why Worry? and Doing the Splits.

Kimberley O’Brien, our Principal Child Psychologist and Jacqui Olsson our Intern Psychologist, facilitated the first North Bondi branch meeting of the Mental Health Professionals Network on Tuesday, 11th August 2009 at the Swiss Grand Hotel, Bondi Beach.

These meetings have been designed to foster greater collaboration by bringing together local mental health professionals from a range of disciplines, and the initial meeting was a great success. Attendees were from a variety of disciplines such as psychology, general practice and naturopathy.

These meetings – and the networks they support and create – offer informal networking opportunities and a forum to discuss interdisciplinary professional approaches to care in the primary mental health sector.

After complimentary drinks and dinner, attendees formed a group to discuss the case study of Sam, an eight year old boy with social anxiety issues. This case study enabled everyone to:

recognise the specific skills offered by other mental health professions in the local area;
identify local mental health referral pathways and resources;
identify opportunities for on-going professional development and mutual support.

The next meeting of the North Bondi MHPN branch is tentatively scheduled for eight weeks time.

Kimberley O’Brien, our Principal Child Psychologist and Jacqui Olsson our Intern Psychologist, facilitated the first Double Bay branch meeting of the Mental Health Professionals Network on Wednesday, 29^th July 2009 at Zest Waterfront Venues, Point Piper.

After complimentary drinks and dinner, attendees formed a group to discuss the case study of Sam, an eight year old boy with social anxiety issues. This case study enabled everyone to:

recognise the specific skills offered by other mental health professions in the local area;
identify local mental health referral pathways and resources;
identify opportunities for on-going professional development and mutual support.

The next meeting of the Double BayMHPN branch is tentatively scheduled for three months time.

Kimberley will be facilitating the first North Bondi MHPN meeting at 7pm on Tuesday 11th August 2009

Kimberley O’Brien, our principal child psychologist and Jacqui Olsson our Intern Psychologist, facilitated the first Vaucluse branch meeting of the Mental Health Professionals Network on Wednesday, 8^th July 2009 at the Watson’s Bay Hotel.

After complimentary drinks and dinner, attendees broke into small groups to discuss the case study of Sam, an eight year old boy with social anxiety issues. This case study enabled everyone to:

recognise the specific skills offered by other mental health professions in the local area;
identify local mental health referral pathways and resources;
identify opportunities for on-going professional development and mutual support.

The next meeting of the Vaucluse MHPN branch is tentatively scheduled for three months time.

Kimberley will be facilitating the first Double Bay MHPN meeting at 7pm on Wednesday, 29^th July 2009.
